| Summary | 0001623: [Smart3][AISoundMax] How to distinguish between STBs delivered to 3PL and end-user STBs in the same FW. | ||||
| Description | Hi Jason SKB wants to make a rule for the property setting specific to STB delivered to 3PL by each manufacturer and apply the this property rule in ATV12. so the method used by each manufacturer should be reported to SKB. In the previous wechat, there was a story about property such as sys.dns.update(?) / persist.vendor.skip_skbdns(?) However, it was discussed a year ago, so the information is not clear at my side. Please explain how to distinguish STB delivered to 3PL. Thank you YK.Jung | ||||

Hi Jason And is there any property setting for dns in FXN? Smart3(Foxconn): AI Sound Max(Foxconn) JIRA is https://jira.skbroadband.com/browse/BPM-14483 Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi YK, Currently we have no way of distinguishing 3PL's boxes from end-user boxes If SKB want to collect mac/SN of 3PL's box. we can ask 3PL to provide it. Regarding the property of dns. we have the following property, (for SWAN/Eagle) persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns This property only works in SKB login page, set persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns 1 in SKB login page, 3PL/FXN can test xTS with non-Korean network. But if we want to login SKB account, we still need to use Korean VPN (also need to set persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns back to 0) If SKB/SPTEK could provide a way for 3PL/FXN to test xTS certification w/o Korean VPN, I think the certification will go more smoothly. Thanks, Jason |
Hi Jason, Thanks for the explanation. There are a few things I'm confused about, so I'll ask further questions. You said that persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns is used for DNS related properties. Does DNS change with only this property? I wonder if the sys.dns.update property is not being used. Thank you. Kim |
Hi JunGyu, >>You said that persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns is used for DNS related properties. >>Does DNS change with only this property? in ATV12 Pleases refer to packages/modules/Connectivity/service/src/com/android/server/connectivity/DnsManager.java // modified SPTEK.MW : 2022.09.30 : +- S //paramsParcel.servers = makeStrings(lp.getDnsServers()); paramsParcel.servers = skbDnsdServers; // modified SPTEK.MW : 2022.09.30 : +- E //VaS start, for test in TW, 20221206 samyang if (SystemProperties.getInt("persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns", 0) == 1) { paramsParcel.servers = makeStrings(lp.getDnsServers()); SPTEK modified "paramsParcel.servers" as skbDnsdServers. if we set the persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns as 1, the "paramsParcel.servers" will use Google original code. >>I wonder if the sys.dns.update property is not being used. We haven't heard the property sys.dns.update. Thanks, Jason |
Hi Jason, Thank you for a detailed explanation. Kim |
Hi, Jason, SKB want to add new property and it should be changed when the persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns is changed. https://jira.skbroadband.com/browse/BPM-14483 [persist.sys.skb.mode]: [true] // Use SKB DNS address [persist.sys.skb.mode]: [false] // Don't use SKB DNS address In common use cases, persist.sys.skb.mode set as true. When the persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns set as 1, then persist.sys.skb.mode set as false. When the persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns set as 0, then persist.sys.skb.mode set as true. If persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns was not defined, persist.sys.skb.mode set as true. Could you please support it? Please send me the test firmware when you finish this job.(eagle or swan) Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sanmin, If SKB want to use persist.sys.skb.mode, I think we can deprecate persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns the default value of persist.sys.skb.mode is true (SPTEK should implement it in FW) in ATV12 Pleases refer to packages/modules/Connectivity/service/src/com/android/server/connectivity/DnsManager.java we will change the following code // modified SPTEK.MW : 2022.09.30 : +- S //paramsParcel.servers = makeStrings(lp.getDnsServers()); paramsParcel.servers = skbDnsdServers; // modified SPTEK.MW : 2022.09.30 : +- E //VaS start, for test in TW, 20221206 samyang if (SystemProperties.getboolean("persist.sys.skb.mode", true) == false) { paramsParcel.servers = makeStrings(lp.getDnsServers()); I have another question, Does SPTEK can support if persist.sys.skb.mode = false, don't do the network reset /vendor/skb/prebuilts/boot_script/skb_script.rc the network reset function always disturb the certification on our/3PL side, we hope SPTEK can also fix it at this time. Thanks, Jason |
Hi, Jason, If SKB want to use persist.sys.skb.mode, I think we can deprecate persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns -> Ok, if you want to deprecate it, please remove it. the default value of persist.sys.skb.mode is true (SPTEK should implement it in FW) -> I think you can also add it. Could you please explain why this property should be implemented by SPTEK? I have another question, Does SPTEK can support if persist.sys.skb.mode = false, don't do the network reset /vendor/skb/prebuilts/boot_script/skb_script.rc -> Could you please explain more? Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sangmin, 1. OK 2. the default value of persist.sys.skb.mode is true (SPTEK should implement it in FW) -> I think you can also add it. >>Could you please explain why this property should be implemented by SPTEK? I just remind you that this value should have the default value, if the value is defined by SKB/SPTEK, I think they can assign the default value in their code. we want to check who is the owner to assign the default value. (OEM or Middleware) 3. I have another question, Does SPTEK can support if persist.sys.skb.mode = false, don't do the network reset /vendor/skb/prebuilts/boot_script/skb_script.rc >>Could you please explain more? There is a network reset function if the network is not in Korea, In ATV9/10, Our QA reported to me if they use Korean VPN, they can login to SKB page, but sometimes they will see the network disconnected dialog. I think their network is disconnected by Network Reset function (/vendor/skb/prebuilts/boot_script/skb_script.rc) I think if you test the FW under SKB network, it's stable, you haven't seen the network disconnect dialog. but we/3PL use Korean VPN, sometimes we can not clarify the network disconnect dialog is from VPN issue or other case. I just ask if SPTEK can add this property to their network reset function, so that we/3PL will have more stable test environment. Thanks, Jason |
Hi, Jason, 2. I will check with SPTEK. 3. Please check the following questions. 3-1. The network reset function is net_reset service in skb_script.rc? on property:sys.net.reset.eth=1 start net_reset 3-2. When the network was disconnected, why did you think the network was disconnected by net_reset service? Did you see any log message? 3-3. Which conditions did you see the network disconnect dialog? A. 3PL/FXN network + SKB DNS(default setting) B. 3PL/FXN network + non SKB DNS C. 3PL/FXN network + Korea VPN + SKB DNS D. 3PL/FXN network + Korea VPN + non SKB DNS I just want to check information before discuss with SPTEK. Thank you. |
Hi, Sangmin, 3-1. The network reset function is net_reset service in skb_script.rc? on property:sys.net.reset.eth=1 start net_reset [FXN] yes 3-2. When the network was disconnected, why did you think the network was disconnected by net_reset service? Did you see any log message? [FXN] no, but I think our network environment is stable, so I guess the disconnection is from net_reset service 3-3. Which conditions did you see the network disconnect dialog? A. 3PL/FXN network + SKB DNS(default setting) => [FXN] This will do the net_reset B. 3PL/FXN network + non SKB DNS => [FXN] This is OK (only in login page), if we login then switch to our network + non SKB dns, it will do the net_reset C. 3PL/FXN network + Korea VPN + SKB DNS => [FXN] This is OK=> But our QA sometimes will see disconnect dialog. (I can not confirm if it's VPN issue) I wonder if the SKB check network should be Korean Network + SKB network D. 3PL/FXN network + Korea VPN + non SKB DNS => [FXN] We haven't verified this case, because Korean vpn + non SKB DNS doesn't make sense. Thanks, Jason |

Hi, Jason, I checked with SPTEK. The property is going to work as follows. (Caution!! The property usages was changed, please check followings!) the persist.sys.skb.mode is NOT exist, -> SKB DNS should be used and net_reset service will work. the persist.sys.skb.mode is exist, the persist.sys.skb.mode is set as "1" or "true", -> SKB DNS don't be used and net_reset service will NOT work. the persist.sys.skb.mode is set as "0" or "false", -> SKB DNS should be used and net_reset service will work. So, if you change the property from persist.vendor.vasott.skip_skbdns to persist.sys.skb.mode, your request will be met also. I think you don't need to set default value. To set the property using shell script under user and userdebug firmware is enough. If you have any question, please let me know. Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sangmin, We've modified the property, you can check packages/modules/Connectivity/service/src/com/android/server/connectivity/DnsManager.java Could you let us know which part should be verified? Thanks, Jason |
Hi, Jason, Please check the followings. 1. DNS address is applied correctly according to the persist.sys.skb.mode. 2. Check the network reset happens or not after set the property persist.sys.skb.mode as true. And, could you please let me know which project did you modified? Following projects should be modified the property. - Eagle 536 branches - Eagle 537 branches - SWAN 536 branches Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi, Sangmin, Please check the followings. >>1. DNS address is applied correctly according to the persist.sys.skb.mode. Before setting this value, we can NOT connect to YouTube with Taiwan network, After setting this value, we can connect to YouTube with Taiwan network. 2. Check the network reset happens or not after set the property persist.sys.skb.mode as true. I don't know how to verify it. Is the following steps correct ? Step 1. Loign to SKB account with Korean VPN Step 2. set persist.sys.skb.mode true or 1 Step 3. change back to Taiwan network Step 4. Confirm if we can use SKB ui with Taiwan Network w/o network reset dialog >>And, could you please let me know which project did you modified? Following projects should be modified the property. - Eagle 536 branches - Eagle 537 branches - SWAN 536 branches Currently, we only applied it in ATV12 Eagle 537, Should we apply to ATV10 536 (eagle10) and ATV10 536 (swan) ? Thank you. Jason |

Hi, Jason, 2. Confirm if we can use SKB ui with Taiwan Network w/o network reset dialog -> I'm sorry but I get the network disconnected dialog issue from you. I think you can verify it following steps. 1. find the condition to see the network disconnected dialog. 2. upgrade to latest firmware 3. check there is network disconnected dialog at the same condition Currently, we only applied it in ATV12 Eagle 537, Should we apply to ATV10 536 (eagle10) and ATV10 536 (swan) ? -> Yes, please apply it to eagle 536 and swan 536 also. Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sangmin, I've tried the following steps in SKB UI Step1: login SBK accoount with Korean VPN Step2: setprop sys.skb.mode 1 Step3: reboot device Step4: Screen show the network disconnection dialog (I guess network reset still work) Thanks, Jason |
Hi, Jason, Step2: setprop sys.skb.mode 1 -> Is this a typo? It should be persist.sys.skb.mode. Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sangmin, It's typo, I set persist.sys.skb.mode during the test. Thanks, Jason |
Hi, Jason, Please give me a video and logcat messages. I need some proofs to raise this issue to SPTEK. Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sangmin, "EthernetRebootDisconnectDialog.mov" is the video, I'll upload logcat later. Thanks~ |
Hi Sangmin, logcat is "logcat_20230210_noLauncherInTwNet.log". I think we can't use sys.skb.mode "1" and TW net to test Launcher UI. Thanks~ Sam |
Hi, Sam, Which firmware did you use? Eagle + 536 + OS10? In 536 branches for OS10, the property was not changed to persist.sys.skb.mode. And, please give me the firmware you tested. Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sanmin, The latest ATV12 (UI537) 15.537.8 has black screen issue. We can't see the WebUI until we change the server config to dev server v536 Sam will verify it again. ATV12 + UI537 + server config: dev server v536 + persist.sys.skb.mode 1 Thanks, Jason |
Hi Sangmin, Because I used launcher server "v537" before(v537 is abnormal showing home UI), I try it with "v536" today. And the result is fine, I can enter home page and use internet in TW by setting property "persist.sys.skb.mode" 1. Thank you~~ Sam |
Dear Jason and Sam, Ok, so I think there is no issue until now. If yes, please apply it to SWAN 536 and Eagle 536. Thank you. Sangmin Choi. |
Hi Sangmin, We already apply it to SWAN 536 and Eagle 536. Thanks~~ Sam |

Hi, Sam, I have a question. Hi Jason I have one question INTEK / INNOPIA distinguishes between STB delivered to 3PL and end-user STB. STB delivered to 3PL by INTEK/INNOPIA has a specific flag/key included in STB. so during STB boot, In INTEK/INNOPIOA FW, setup for 3PL can be set by checking the flag/key. Is there any way to distinguish STB from STB delivered to 3PL in FXN model? Is it possible to do the following? if you already know the MAC address delivered to 3PL and it corresponds to that value, you can set a specific property at bootloader Or you can check range the MAC... I think fxn can make it ( I think it's better to prepare it in advance just in case. ) Or I think we need to find a test method that can safely proceed with Google testing using VPN. Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi YK, We don't plan to add any whitelist MAC into FW. Under the same version of software, 3PL's FW behavior must be the same as that of the field user Google TAM is also using SKB STB, he used to ask the 3PL to confirm certain behavior after we pass certification. so the behavior of 3PL's Box and field user must be the same. Please understand our situation, we are Google's partner, Any "unusual" method is not allowed. If someone modifies the firmware, they should be responsible for making it stable in the test environment. Thanks, Jason |
Hi Jason Then, you need to make a stable pass scenario when testing in 3PL. Please check it. Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi Jason In theory, When google factory default, skb_webview is used by default. But we need to change to google_webview before running google CTS. Therefore, Google setup wizard can only operate with skb_webview. In the SKB login window, you can change to Google_webview and proceed with the CTS test. This is theoretical. I think we need to test it Thank you YK.Jung |
HI Jason You can check which webview you are using with the "dumpsys webviewupdate" command. < factory defualt > I checked after adb connect BFX-AT100:/ $ dumpsys webviewupdate Current WebView Update Service state Multiprocess enabled: true Current WebView package (name, version): (com.google.android.webview.debug, <== SKB webview .. I set setprop persist.sys.skb.mode 1 after adb connect reboot BFX-AT100:/ $ dumpsys webviewupdate Current WebView Update Service state Multiprocess enabled: true Current WebView package (name, version): (com.google.android.webview, 108.0.5359.128) <== Google webview ... Hi Sangmin, I add the senario of detecting on property "persist.sys.skb.mode" = true or false: "2023-02-21 19:42:45 | sam.cy.yang@mail.f.. | 8e6f35a | device/synaptics/sequoia | 0001623: set skb dns property by persist.sypersist.sys.skb.mode=true or false" Thanks~ Sam |
